Passionate about cars and motorsports, Cheryl Tay is a familiar face in prominent local, regional as well as international automotive titles. She is equally enthusiastic about health and fitness and is always on the lookout for the latest workout trends. More of her at CherylTay.sg and on Facebook,Twitter or Instagram (cheryltay11).

If you’ve always fantasised about turning your running hobby into an actual career, your time has come.

The newly-opened Westin Singapore is searching for its first ‘runWESTIN’ concierge, an on-site running and fitness guide for guests and associates.

Responsibilities include bringing hotel guests on runs, creating running maps for them, providing marathon training, and dispensing tips on health and wellness.

It’s a dream job for someone like Southeast Asia Games cycling gold-medallist Dinah Chan, who said she would consider applying for the position if not for her teaching bond with the Ministry of Education.

“This is definitely an interesting career opportunity, especially if you love running,” said the 28-year-old, who was speaking at a launch to announce the runWestin concept.

According to Westin, there is no need for fitness certification or a fitness test – you’re invited to apply so long as you’re sufficiently enthusiastic, nifty with social media and a real people person.

If successful, the candidate will represent Westin Singapore in one overseas marathon and two runs in Singapore: the SunDown Marathon on 31 May and the SGX Bull Run in November.

Run around the world

The ‘runWESTIN’ initiative encourages guests to keep fit on their travels with the provision of guided runs, running gear and running maps up to 8km long.

In tandem with runWESTIN is the Westin New Balance Gear Lending programme – launched globally in November 2012 – where guests can borrow New Balance running shoes with disposable insoles as well as a variety of New Balance apparel for just US$6.

You’ll also be doing something meaningful on top of helping yourself get into shape.

From now till 30 April, a brand new pair of New Balance shoes will be donated to Soles4Souls – a charity that provides footwear to those in need – for every 20 guests who rent the Westin New Balance gear or use the runWESTIN running map during their stay at participating properties.
