High Roller: Joe Biden"s Three Day Singapore Stay Cost $583000

Back in March, Vice President Joe Biden and his security entourage made news when it was discovered that their one night stay at the Intercontinental Paris Le Grand cost an incredible $585,000.

Today, the Weekly Standard published the security contract for Biden’s three day, two night stay at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore. The total cost? $583,000. Hey, we’re improving!

The only description given on the contract reads as follows:

“Large and secure hotel approved by the host government with sufficient sleeping rooms, office space, parking space, and meeting space to host a VIP visit of over 250 guests during the principal’s (Biden’s) visit.”

Here is the (poorly copied) contract:

While the immense cost of the bill is sure to raise some eyebrows, it’s a good idea to remember all of the security resources and personnel needed when high-ranking officials like Biden travel. And by the way, these outrageous presidential travel bills are nothing new. For proof, hop in your time machine and check out this 1987 article by the LA Times about the cost of President Reagan’s vacations. A trip to his Santa Barbara ranch cost taxpayers around $250,000. That’s good for $642,000 in today’s dollars.
