BREAKING: Burundi detained in hotel over bill arrears

EXCLUSIVE
By Otieno Otieno

Burundi national team has been detained at their hotel over non-payment of dues even as cash crunch begun to bite on Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup.

The team is supposed to play Tanzania on Wednesday in Nakuru but by Tuesday evening was still locked up in their hotel (Milele Hotel located in South ‘C’) after the owners refused to release them until bills are cleared.

“While the other teams have travelled to Nakuru, Burundi are still holed up in their rooms after the management refused to release them,” a source exclusively revealed to Goal.

The source also complained that despite being informed organizers have not taken any steps to sort out the problem. On Sunday, Football Kenya Federation President Sam Nyamweya said in an interview with a section of local media that they were facing a huge budget deficit.

Conservative estimates have it that the federation needs about Sh3million per day to pay for accommodation expenses. Eritrea and champions Uganda Cranes also reside at Milele Hotel.
