Green gold

FIVE top chefs from around the world will be celebrating the Formula One season in Singapore this year at Marina Bay Sands. Celebrity chefs Daniel Boulud, Guy Savoy, Justin Quek, Tetsuya Wakuda and Wolfgang Puck will lend their culinary prowess during and after the F1 weekend this September with special dinners and exclusive menus just for the race.


Waku Ghin (+65 6688 8507) by chef Tetsuya Wakuda will open for lunch over the F1 weekend of Sept 22 and 23 with a special degustation menu that features new and classic dishes for S$250++ (RM651).


Guy Savoy (+65 6688 8513) will be hosting an exclusive dinner on Sept 19 together with nine of the world’s most renowned champagne houses with a tasting, cocktail reception and a gala dinner. The Singapour fête le Champagne will feature a ve-course degustation menu including signature dishes such as oyster in gelée, Guy Savoy’s famous artichoke and black truffle soup as well as new creations specifically tailored for the incredible champagnes that will be served. The dinner starts at 7pm and is priced at S$948++.


On race day itself, Guy Savoy will also open for a F1 Grand Prix lunch, serving both à la carte and a two- or three-course menu from S$55++, featuring summer dishes such as lamb shank in saffron-marjoram crust with carrots à la Française and carpaccio of dorade with textures of summer vegetables, tomato tea and sauce vierge.


In addition, the restaurant is also offering an early dinner three-course menu from 6pm to 7pm priced at S$130++ during the F1 weekend. Diners will get to have a choice of an appetiser, main course and dessert from the à la carte menu served en demi, the perfect portion for an early indulgence before the race. Enjoy signature dishes such as lobster raw-cooked in cold steam, crispy sea bass with delicate spices and sautéed wild pink dorade, and desserts including grapefruit terrine and chocolate orb.


At The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, there are special F1 menus, takeaway baskets and early dinner options for diners who are eager to grab a slice of trackside action. Pizzeria Mozza (+65 6688 8522) will present its popular F1 Picnic Box that features a choice of two antipasti, a salad, a pizza and two desserts. The picnic basket, priced at S$80++, is perfect for couples who prefer to take away a meal and immerse in the F1 fanfare outdoors.  


Meanwhile, db Bistro Moderne (+65 6688 8525) is offering a delicious brunch before the F1 race. Diners can enjoy a three-course menu including the original db burger and signature iceberg and blue salad for S$60++. Champagne is available at an additional S$7. The brunch is available over the F1 weekend from 11am to 4.30pm.


In addition, celebrity chef Daniel Boulud will be hosting a dinner that features wines from the legendary Rhône producer E Guigal. Diners will be treated to a five-course menu featuring dishes such as the squan duo, a foie gras dish and the Mediterranean sea bass en Papillote. The dinner is on Sept 18 and is priced at S$550++.


Iconic steakhouse CUT (+65 6688 8517) is serving Early CUTs, a two-course set dinner at S$65++ with a choice of its signature seasonal starters such as the heirloom tomato salad with goat cheese, shaved red onion and Spanish anchovies or American blue crab and shrimp Louis. Diners can choose a main course of the USDA prime striploin steak frites, Norwegian salmon en barigoule or the halal baby chicken with potato puree and field mushrooms. CUT is also offering dessert top-ups at S$18. For wine lovers, pairings are available at S$28 with a choice of one red and one white wine. This menu is only available for reservations between 6pm and 6.30pm during the F1 weekend. Renowned chef Wolfgang Puck will join in the post-F1 revelry at the restaurant in the week of Sept 23.


Perched on the Sands SkyPark on level 57 of Marina Bay Sands, Sky on 57 (+65 6688 8857) is a prime location to catch the race live at its outdoor terrace. The restaurant is also installing six TV screens on race day for guests to capture the action while dining indoors. Sky on 57 is offering a five-course set dinner menu at S$200++, featuring dishes such as the Nordic king crab, Wagyu beef and Maine lobster.


Guests looking to host a group party can opt for a private corner at Sky on 57’s outdoor terrace that provides a spectacular view of the city skyline and the race circuit. The West Terrace Promotion Package, priced at S$988++, includes assorted canapés and a bottle of magnum-sized champagne catering to up to five guests.


Over at the hotel lobby, RISE Restaurant (+65 6688 5525) will be offering special F1 lunch and dinner menus, perfect for diners who love a hearty buffet spread. Priced at S$52++, the lunch buffet offers mouth-watering dishes such as the heirloom tomato salad with buratta, Alaskan crab legs and a charcuterie corner featuring air-dried beef, prosciutto, Scottish smoked salmon and tuna tataki.


Diners can also look forward to a hearty dinner spread with highlights such as the Western carving station with rottiserie chicken persillade piment’d espelette and roast smoked prime ribs. Priced at S$78++, the dinner buffet offers a wide selection with a sushi and sashimi bar, a tandoori station, fresh seafood, a western station, a Chinese carving station, Asian station as well as a dessert bar.
