MBS to screen Rolling Stones concert for free

SINGAPORE – Marina Bay Sands (MBS) will be hosting a free simulcast of the Rolling Stones concert taking place at the integrated resort’s Grand Ballroom on March 15.

Tickets to the live performance are sold out, but MBS will now be screening the concert at its Event Plaza as well, in an event called Marina Bay Sands Rocks Singapore.

It will be projected live from 8pm onwards in high definition on a 14m-wide LED screen, the integrated resort said in a press release yesterday.

The music will be pumped out through a high-powered Meyer sound system suspended 8m off the ground, “providing an incredible audio-visual experience for festival goers”, it said.

A number of Singapore rock acts – including A-List with Douglas O., Heritage, Jive Talkin’, John Molina Krueger, and ZulTania – will start playing at 4pm, before the simulcast.

Concert tickets were priced between $250 and $700, making it the most expensive English-language gig in Singapore. But that did not deter fans, who snapped up all the tickets 21/2 hours after they went on sale last Friday morning.

The concert will feature the veteran British band’s classic line-up of singer Mick Jagger, guitarists Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, and drummer Charlie Watts. Former Stones guitarist Mick Taylor will also perform as a guest.

The gig, part of their 14 On Fire world tour, is their first in Singapore in 11 years. The Stones were last in town in March 2003, when they played two nights at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
