In a battle of two young undefeated fighters, Singaporean Royston Wee defeated Team Lakay’s Dave Galera via unanimous decision in the undercard of Fight night 34 at the Marina Bay Sands.
Going into the match, mixed martial arts (MMA) enthusiast felt that Galera had the upper hand. He had Brazilian jiu jitsu credential and strikes with the very best in the Philippines with Team Lakay. However, Wee showed that his wrestling could negate anything in Galera’s arsenal.
Wee started the fight by scoring a big takedown to the delight of his hometown fans. Galera tried his best to bring the fight back to stand-up but The Singaporean was just too good on the ground.
Frustrated that he couldn’t get his striking going in the first round, Galera hurried a kick to start the second round. He paid for it dearly as Wee scored another takedown. After struggling on the ground, Galera managed to get back on his feet but his small victory was ended quickly with another Wee takendown.
In the third round, Galera started well by landing a leg kick and a right straight. He caught Wee coming in with a knee, which was his best strike of the night. Galera tried to continue his momentum by throwing another leg kick but Wee saw it coming and completed another takedown.
The frustrations kept on mounting for the Filipino fighter and it all boiled out when he landed an illegal upkick, which earned him a one point deduction.
Galera and Wee both have not experienced fighting until the final bell. In his first fights, Galera scored two knockouts and three submissions. Wee on the other hand made his first two opponents tap out.
The Filipino’s record gets its first blemish at 5-1 while Wee climbs to 3-0.
