Singapore resort group COMO to debut Miami Beach hotel

Yet another international hotel group is entering the Miami market: upscale COMO Hotels and Resorts, based in Singapore.

COMO plans to open its first U.S. property this December, the 74-room Metropolitan located in a renovated 1930s building in the Art Deco district of Miami Beach.

The new hotel, located on Collins Ave. and 24th St., will have direct access to the beach, a private swimming pool, two restaurants, and a COMO Shambhala Urban Escape spa.

Interiors are by the Italian designer Paola Navone, who aims to combine the hotel’s Art Deco heritage with contemporary décor in shades of peppermint green and dusky grey with surfaces of cool white marble and shining chrome.

Founded by Christina Ong, COMO Hotels and Resorts includes two Metropolitan hotels in London and Bangkok, the private island resort of Parrot Cay by COMO in the Turks and Caicos, and three Uma by COMO experience resorts in Bali and Bhutan.

The group will open Maalifushi by COMO in the Maldives and Point Yamu by COMO, Phuket in Thailand later this year.

The Miami Beach hotel will be managed by Javier Beneyto, former hotel manager of Villa Magna in Madrid and most recently, general manager at Cocoa Island by COMO in the Maldives and The Halkin by COMO in London.

Other new hotel groups entering the Miami area market include HES Group of Venezuela, which is involved with the 160-room Aloft Miami-Brickell downtown, and EuroBuilding Hotels Group of Venezuela, which started the 133-room EB Hotel Miami International Airport in Miami Springs.
